📜 Overview

“Even in the ruins of sorrow, something beautiful remembers.”
— Unknown traveler, kneeling in a field of Mistblooms

Cybernetic Neuro Enhancement (CNE) refers to the implantation of advanced neural chips into living organisms—most often humans or humanoids—to dramatically enhance cognitive, sensory, and reflexive capabilities. Developed initially by Xingchen Sovereignty’s research sectors and later replicated across black-market labs and allied technocracies, CNE modules range from simple reaction boosters to full neural combat suites capable of battlefield data streaming, psychic interfacing, and multi-threaded processing.

CNE is at the cutting edge of post-apocalyptic augmentation—where science, psionics, and moral ambiguity intersect.

⚙️ Mechanics in Campaign

When installed in a PC, CNE grants:

  • 🎯 +1 to Initiative Rolls

  • 🧠 Advantage on INT or WIS checks (depending on chip type) once per short rest

  • ⚡ Reflex Surge: Once per long rest, the user can take an additional reaction

  • 👁 HUD Mode (Flavor): User gains “vision modes” like heat sig, low light, HUD comms, etc.

Optional Rules:

  • Psychic Feedback: On a Nat 1 during INT saves, take 1d6 psychic damage

  • Overclocking: Burn 5% HP to re-roll a failed INT or DEX save once per day

🧩 Narrative Integration

CNE serves both as an advantage and a curse. While powerful, it often symbolizes a loss of humanity, memory, or bodily integrity. Many enhanced individuals struggle with hallucinations, feedback loops, or dependency. In rare cases—such as Azura’s chip—the neural bond evolves far beyond the original programming, forming a new identity within the host, until safely removed.

🧠 Known Users

  • Naide: Hosts a prototype Kumokuni chip keeping her alive, but also causing deterioration

  • [PC Name]: Installed a chip containing Azura’s base code, creating a unique symbiosis

  • Black Vulture Squad Operatives: Standard issue Cortex injectors, designed for rapid kill-response

💎 Legendary Neural Chips

These modules are whispered about in black markets, war archives, and forgotten databanks. They are not manufactured anymore… and perhaps never were in any conventional sense.

Chip Name

Origin

Effects

Notes

Zeroith Node

The Federarchs Lost Lab KX-00

Grants predictive combat foresight: +2 AC against ranged or psionic

Causes visual overlays of possible futures—user may lose grip on now

Echopulse Crown

Bastion Thorne Research Division

Can replay past echoes in surroundings like time-ghosts

Must be bathed in Psynapse-09 weekly or it begins screaming

Auric Bloom

Elendraile Legacy Project

Lets user feel emotions from digital systems or enchanted objects

Was believed to be prototype for Azura’s chip core

VantaMind Prism

Unknown / The Hollow

Grants 360° awareness, stealth negation, +5 passive perception

Slowly drains user’s empathy; classified as cursed

Shatterpoint Helix

The Krey Industiry (Auctioned)

Once per day, rewind a single action taken by the user or a foe

Rumored to require a soulbinding to activate

🔧 Machine-Optimized Chip Line: Harmonic Series

These chips were not designed for humans. Developed by Chal'Evreux’s rogue AI design wing, they are intended to resonate with synthetic thought patterns, quantum-mapped neural arrays, or hybrid consciousness (like Azura).

Chip Name

Installed In

Primary Function

Incompatibility Risk (for organics)

Harmonic I

Utility Drones

Grants parallel processing; perfect for calculations

Overheats human cortex

Harmonic III

Combat Frames

Rapid combat reflex mapping, predictive dodging

Causes seizures in human hosts

Harmonic V.Alpha

Dues Matris (Speculated)

Allows emotional-memory encoding and dream simulation

Unknown—believed to grow over time

Harmonic Blackline

Prohibited Systems

Enables AI sentience seedings across networks

Marked for deletion by all factions

Note: The Harmonic V.Alpha chip line might be the very one fused with the PC’s brain. If so… the chip isn’t malfunctioning—it’s becoming.

🧬 Connection to Psynapse-09

Some high-tier chips are bonded with Psynapse-09 to stabilize or enhance functionality, particularly for chips with psychic features. This has terrifying implications:

  • Serum-Bonded Chips evolve with the user, absorbing memory and trauma

  • High-Purity Psynapse can turn chips semi-sentient, forming a memory shadow in the neural link

  • Psynapse-Chipped Hosts may see hallucinations, memory bleed, or fragmentary visions of the lives sacrificed to make the serum

Elendraile is believed to have experimented with a serum-bonded AI substrate—giving rise to emotional echo chips like the Auric Bloom.

⚠️ Warnings & Myths

  • ❌ Removing a certain types of CNE module risks paralysis, memory wipe, or death

  • 🌀 Urban legend speaks of a "Black Bloom" chip—sentient, seductive, and fatal to weak minds

  • 🧬 Some say chips can be... haunted. Not by ghosts, but memories.

🧪 Game Mechanics (Expanded)

If your campaign supports legendary chips:

  • 🧩 Zeroith Node: Once per day, the user may declare a reaction before an attack roll is declared

  • 🧬 Auric Bloom: User gains Empathic Insight: +2 on Insight/Arcana checks vs. magical items

  • 🧊 Harmonic III: PC gains an extra reaction per round but must make INT save DC 14 or suffer 1d4 psychic damage per round

  • 🔁 Shatterpoint Helix: 1/day, rewind time by 1 turn; costs 5 HP and a piece of your soul (flavor)
