Overview
The Cyborgs of the Dyade are a post-human people forged from crisis — survivors of Earth’s collapse and Karthaheim’s mystical overflow, reforged through a fusion of organic life, machine logic, and the ambient chaos of Magic Monicues. They are not merely augmented individuals but a distinct cultural identity bound by shared memory, modular flesh, and adaptive purpose. Across both Earth and Karthaheim, they have formed their own enclaves, philosophies, and spiritual codes — a patchwork civilization of chrome, rust, and resonance.
Physically, they range from subtly enhanced humanoids to unrecognizable fusions of metal, synthetic sinew, and psionic circuitry. Some are graceful and beautiful in sculpted synthflesh; others are terrifying constructs shaped by battle and decay. Cultural branches — such as the Hollowborn, Symbiotars, or Shrouded Signal — represent wildly different ideologies and forms of selfhood, from full-body conversion to biomagical symbiosis.
Cyborgs thrive primarily in regions where chaos has carved space for innovation: the Iron Veil, a subterranean Earthside republic beneath the ruins of Old Berlin, and The Woundforge, a floating Karthaheimian forge-temple tethered to the Stormsea. Scattered nomads, tech-divers, and psionic monks extend their reach across the globe. No matter the geography, all Cyborgs are tethered by the Signalweb — a shared psionic network of memory, dreams, and fragmented souls.
They descend from scientists, soldiers, AI cults, and desperate survivors of the Monicue surge. Their ancestors once tried to fight mutation with machine logic and failed — or succeeded too well. Some revere Azura as their origin-mother, believing her to be the first successful fusion of soul and circuit. Whether reviled or worshipped by outsiders, the Cyborgs do not seek pity or glory. They are a people of scars and sparks — remembering what the world forgot, and evolving beyond its ruins.
“We are not remnants. We are revolutions.”
— Praetor Nivex of the Shrouded Signal
History and Lore
The Cyborg Epoch began during the Second Surge, when Monicue mutation storms devastated major cities and no biological defense could hold. Earth governments collapsed. Karthaheim magic systems malfunctioned. Medical science turned to desperate measures.
Early cyber-fusions were crude — more cage than cure. But out of chaos, survivor enclaves formed, merging Monicue-infused rune circuits with hacked nanotech and lost Karthaheimian relics. These became the first Tribes of Flesh-Iron.
Over the next decades, Cyborg culture crystallized into:
Religious sects venerating synthesis as transcendence
Practical collectives trading tech and knowledge
Mercenary guilds who hired out as Monicue-killers or mutation-hunters
Several major Cyborg Schisms occurred:
The Rustlight Rebellion, rejecting full machine-conversion
The Aetheric Heresy, claiming that the soul corrupts the machine
The Memory War, where rogue AI fragments tried to overwrite Cyborg consciousness
Today, they are both fractured and united — a people bound by code, choice, and survival.
Physical Descriptions
Cyborgs are aesthetically diverse. Mods range from biomechanical to crystalline-psionic, and reflect their origin or faith:
Eyes: luminous data-sigils or multifaceted scanner orbs
Limbs: alloy, ceramic, Monicue-sheened bone replacements
Skin: grafted synthflesh, tattooed with circuit lines, or armored plates
Hearts: some replaced with rune-powered cores that pulse with ambient song
Common motifs:
Rust-chic: ornate aging of machinery is fashionable
Exposed inner mechanics as trust-signals
Neural data ports and signal-banners as clan symbols
Culture and Society
Naming Conventions: Many take alphanumeric names with symbolic meaning — e.g., Unit-Seven “Shiver”, Delta-Ash, Orison-K3, Rhezen-9.
Birth & Creation: Some Cyborgs are born human and modified; others are "grown" in womb-tech pods as pure hybrid children.
Art & Expression: Music is made from signal interference. Sculpture from tech wreckage. Dance interpreted as combat-sequence poetry.
Ceremonies:
The Soldering: coming-of-age ritual where a Cyborg chooses their final form.
Echo-Silence: communal mourning by muting all signal for 9 minutes.
The Dissonant Wake: ritual when corrupted or rogue Cyborgs are “put down.
Common Cyborgs Sayings
“Flesh bleeds once. Code bleeds forever.”
“We dream in data. We grieve in silence.”
“Rust is the price of memory.”
“Every spark is a soul. Every soul is a spark.”
“If the flesh forgets, the metal remembers.”
“We are the broken, reforged.”
Quote
“Metal remembers what flesh would rather forget.”
