📜 Overview
"You haven't truly wept until you've taken a bite of Grakthar’s Woe."
—Unknown mercenary, moments before a food coma
Grakthar’s Folded Woe is a legendary sandwich originating from the charred battle-kitchens of the war-scorched city of Dregsholm. It is a towering sandwich wrapped in regret, grilled under wyvern flame, and seasoned with spice blends known only to battle-chefs who’ve witnessed at least one tragic backstory. It is said to echo with emotional psionic resonance, amplifying a soul's inner turmoil into raw, stat-boosting power.
When consumed during a Short Rest or before combat, it infuses the eater with a surge of melancholic energy and iron-rich bravado.
Banned in 11 districts due to its high emotional resonance and testosterone density, this sandwich is the unofficial meal of mercs, miners, and magically enhanced sad people who need 4,000 calories to emotionally process their day.
🧂 Ingredients
Blackened Mourning Beef – Seared under wyvern flame, marinated in disappointment
Crushed Mistbloom Aioli – Don't worry, it's synthetic. Probably. Maybe. (Do not give to Azura. Ever.)
Arcane-Pickled Onions – Pickled in time-distorted vinegar. They scream when you bite them.
Shredded Fennel of Forgetting – Adds a hint of regret with each chew
Two slabs of Soul Loaf – Bread infused with minor enchantments to keep the sandwich from collapsing under its own emotional weight
🧠 Magical Effects
You must consume the entire sandwich (takes 1 minute). Once eaten, you gain the following benefits for 1 hour:
🎭 Melancholy Might
You gain +1d6 bonus damage to all melee and ranged weapon attacks. The damage is psychic, and flavored as “emotional outbursts.” (You literally hit harder because you're sad.)
🔮 Sandwich Resonance Field
You exude an aura of tragic energy. Allies within 10 ft gain +1 to Wisdom saves and have advantage on Insight checks against humanoids.
💢 Heartburn of Vengeance
If you're reduced to 0 HP within 1 hour of eating this sandwich, you may immediately stand back up with 1 HP and shout something dramatically heart-wrenching (must be RP'd). This can only occur once per long rest.
🧂 Side Effects (Optional Table, roll 1d6)
d6 | Side Effect |
|---|---|
1 | You cry uncontrollably for 2 minutes. No action penalty, just... emotional. |
2 | You monologue about a lost love. Gain +2 Persuasion but disadvantage on Stealth. |
3 | You hallucinate the sandwich talking back. Gain 1 Insightful Question to ask it. |
4 | You smell faintly of onions and guilt. |
5 | You swear vengeance on whoever invented mayonnaise. |
6 | No effect. You feel... oddly at peace. This worries you more. |
💬 Lore Hook
Some believe the sandwich is cursed. Others say it contains a soul fragment of Grakthar himself, trapped forever between layers of beef and bread. But all agree: you don’t eat it lightly. You eat it when the stakes are high. And your emotions are higher.
Is it food? Is it therapy? Is it an edible weapon of mass emotional disruption?
Yes.
“Grakthar may be gone, but his Woe lives on—in our arteries and our dreams.”
💀 Known Interactions
Cannot be consumed by constructs or undead (they explode).
Eating more than one in a 24-hour period causes psychic indigestion: DC 18 CON save or fall unconscious for 1 minute, dreaming of your worst regret.
If consumed within 10 ft of a Mistbloom, the flowers glow faintly… as if remembering something too.
🧑 Notable Mentions
Mio Fūma once ate one during a stakeout and couldn’t speak for 3 hours. Konstantin Volkov cried too, but said it was “the onions.”
Azura scanned it once, sighed, and uploaded the calorie count to the central net. No one’s seen the server since.
