Operating Principle
Core Mechanism: Peda-Sumir reacts to pressure from an enemy stepping on or disturbing the concealed device. Depending on variant, it either releases an upward blade or triggers a small localized explosive burst. Energy / Power Source: Mechanical release or prepared internal charge, depending on variant. Poor Use Case: Civilian areas, unclear terrain, friendly movement routes, unstable ground, any battlefield where recovery cannot be guaranteed. Risks and Failure Modes
Mechanical Failure: Failure to trigger, delayed trigger, jammed blade release, casing damage, trigger sensitivity drift. Resonantia Failure: N/A for baseline models. Friendly-Fire Risk: High if placement is poorly recorded or friendly units enter the area unexpectedly. Operator Risk: Mishandling during transport, placement, recovery, or damaged-device inspection. Enemy Exploitation: Enemies may locate, bypass, remove, or deliberately trigger devices from a distance. Catastrophic Failure Scenario: Unrecorded devices remain after battle and injure civilians, friendly troops, or returning patrols. Peda-Sumir’s worst failure is not failing to harm the enemy.
