Description

Vanguard’s Sigil is a post-Calamity organization forged from grief, duty, and the ashes of failure. It was born in the aftermath of the First Dimensional Chaos, when a catastrophic breach to Noxarium allowed monstrous infernal entities—colossal, kaiju-like horrors—to pour into Earth. Over six months, countless cities fell, but none more memorably than Argentalis, a coastal sanctuary devoured in a single night.

Survivors of that tragedy—former soldiers, peacekeepers, medics, clerics, and mages—came together not to rebuild the city, but to ensure such devastation would never happen again. What began as a vigil for the fallen became a movement, and then an elite order. Vanguard’s Sigil emerged as the globe’s foremost defenders against extraplanar incursion, dedicated to sealing dimensional rifts and slaying the horrors that slip through.

Where the Overwatch Alliance tracks AI and technological threats, the Sigil watches for ancient, abyssal, and arcane ones. Where Overwatch excels in information, Vanguard brings the sword and shield.

“When darkness falls, we raise the dawn.”
— Vanguard's member

History

The Sigil was formed after the opening of the Noxarium portal—an event now remembered as the First Dimensional Chaos. Abyzzari refugees poured through in desperation, fleeing a shattered realm. With them came infernal entities: kaiju-scale monsters, abyssal warforms, and horrors Earth was not prepared to face.

For six months, civilization burned.

The invasion ended only after unprecedented sacrifice, but the cost was permanent. The city of Argentalis—once a symbol of post-Collision recovery—was devoured in a single night by Noxarium Kaiju. Entire evacuation corridors failed. Defensive lines collapsed. Tens of thousands died.

The survivors did not celebrate victory.

Instead, those who failed—commanders who gave the wrong order, medics who ran out of supplies, clerics whose wards broke, peacekeepers who arrived too late—came together and swore a binding oath: never again without vigilance.

Thus Vanguard’s Sigil was born. Not as a nation, but as a watch.

Structure

  • The High Warden – Supreme coordinator of the Sigil. Traditionally a non-political figure chosen for experience, not charisma.

  • Gatewardens – Veteran commanders assigned to known weak points in reality. Each oversees a network of watch stations.

  • Riftbearers – Frontline combatants trained to engage infernal and extradimensional entities directly.

  • Sanctifiers – Clerics, medics, and exorcists specializing in corruption containment and civilian recovery.

  • Watch Initiates – New members undergoing ritual oaths, historical immersion, and trauma conditioning.

Cells operate semi-independently, but all share encrypted anomaly data and threat forecasts through a global Vigil Network.
