Description
Schattenzug Logistics is a transcontinental transport and freight consortium operating in the grey zones between nations, factions, and wars. Officially registered as a post-recovery logistics provider specializing in hazardous-route supply chains, Schattenzug presents itself as a neutral, indispensable artery of civilization.
In truth, it is one of the most efficient and morally flexible movement networks in the known world.
Schattenzug does not ask what it carries. Only where, when, and how quietly. Their convoys move through irradiated tundra, collapsed city-spines, contested borders, and interdicted airspace with unsettling regularity. If something impossible arrives somewhere it shouldn’t, there is a strong chance Schattenzug delivered it.
They are not smugglers in the romantic sense. They are professionals. Railmasters, convoy engineers, quartermasters, and silent accountants who understand that in a broken world, movement is power.
History
Schattenzug Logistics traces its origins to the immediate aftermath of the Calamity, when Europe’s industrial rail networks collapsed into fragmented, hostile corridors. What began as a coalition of freight engineers, former Deutsche Bahn logistics officers, and private security contractors evolved into a unified operation dedicated to keeping goods moving—legally or otherwise.
The name Schattenzug (“Shadow Train”) was first used by refugees who noticed unmarked armored rail convoys passing through dead zones at night, lights dimmed, schedules unrecorded.
As borders hardened and treaties failed, Schattenzug thrived. They learned how to negotiate with warlords, bribe AI checkpoint systems, appease mercenary companies, and reroute entire cities’ worth of cargo without triggering alarms. Over time, they became indispensable to megacorps, rebel groups, governments, and criminals alike.
By the time international oversight attempted to regulate them, Schattenzug was already everywhere—and nowhere.
Structure
The Directorate of Rails – The unseen executive council that governs Schattenzug’s operations. Identities unknown. Believed to be a mix of legacy industrial magnates, former intelligence officers, and logistics AIs bound by contract logic.
Railmasters – Senior operational commanders responsible for entire continental corridors. They have authority to reroute convoys, sacrifice cargo, or erase manifests without consultation.
Conductors – Field operatives who oversee individual shipments. Each Conductor is trained in logistics, negotiation, and emergency combat protocols. Many are former soldiers or mercenaries.
Black Clerks – Accountants, coders, and archivists who maintain Schattenzug’s infamous “double books.” What moves is recorded. Why it moves is not.
Ghost Crews – Anonymous engineers and guards who rotate identities and assignments to prevent tracking. Many are legally dead.
Cells operate semi-independently, connected by encrypted rail codes, shifting call signs, and time-based authorization windows.
