The Reagent Covenant is a volatile and philosophical faith built on the truth that nothing is inert — all things change when touched, when pressured, when burned. To transform is divine. To remain still is death in denial. Its adherents believe the universe is a cascading chain of elemental reactions, and that conscious beings exist to catalyze, not contain.
In the eyes of the Covenant, decay is not ruin — it is reaction completed. Explosions are not destruction — they are purification. Even death is simply the final transformation of flesh into something new. The faithful act as chemical agents of fate — transformers, instigators, and volatile prophets.
Where others fear collapse, the Covenant whispers: “This was always meant to happen.”
Ideals and Commandments
These core tenets are etched onto alchemical metal slates, kept warm over low flame, or recited as mantras while mixing volatile solutions:
Everything Reacts — There is no substance so inert it cannot change. Every touch, every word, every choice ignites potential.
There Is No Stagnation — Stillness is a lie. All matter is in motion. Even silence corrodes.
To Catalyze Is Divine — The sacred task is not to exist, but to cause change. The world is a crucible — light the flame.
Even Death Is a Reaction — Decomposition is a sacred rite. Rot is not loss — it is transformation.
Followers are expected to provoke, transform, and never allow equilibrium to settle — not out of malice, but reverence for perpetual change.
Clergy and Followers
The Reagent Covenant draws volatile thinkers, war-priests, and alchemical radicals who live by reaction:
Alchemists of Faith — Chemists who worship through experiment, seeking the “divine reaction”
Bombsmith Acolytes — Holy saboteurs who walk with flasks and fuses, burning their enemies into sacred residue
Plaguebearers — Priests of decay who sanctify rot and disease as necessary transformations
Gas-Mask Cultists — Sects who live permanently in toxic zones, believing fumes are the breath of divinity
Fume-Walkers — Mystics who move like vapor, shifting their form as easily as gas under pressure
The faith accepts grotesquery, volatility, and rapid change as marks of divine favor. To “remain the same” is heresy.
Sacred Miracles and Blessings
(Granted to clerics, alchemists, war-priests, and followers in volatile devotion.)

By speaking the true name of a chemical process, the faithful may force it to occur — provided the right materials are present.
Examples include:
“Combustion” — nearby oil and spark erupt in flame
“Polymerization” — goo or sap hardens into armor
“Oxidation” — metal instantly rusts and breaks
Each word must be spoken with intention and knowledge, or the reaction will misfire.
☠️ Oath of Acid
A blessing of corrosive transformation. With concentrated emotion, the follower’s hands drip acid:
Melts armor, walls, flesh
Cannot be turned off without mental control
Often leaves scars on the user’s own body
Considered both a punishment and a mark of zeal

The faithful may temporarily transform into gas, smoke, or vapor, slipping through cracks, evading strikes, or hiding in open air.
Can be dispersed by wind or vacuums
Cannot speak, lift objects, or cast spells while fully vaporous
A sacred state of chemical dissolution — used in prayer by mystics
💥 Chain Reaction
Once per day, destroying a single object can trigger a cascade of destruction:
A shattered lantern sets a warehouse ablaze
A broken gear ruptures a war engine
A cracked vial spreads toxins through an army’s food
This power reflects the truth of the faith: All things are connected through potential energy.
Rituals and Sacred Practices
The Boiling Sermon – A ritual in which volatile substances are mixed in front of the faithful. Whether the result is healing vapor, dazzling crystal, or deadly acid, the message is clear: react, or perish.
The Rotfast – Devotees fast within sealed chambers filled with decay. Their breath, sweat, and skin become part of the ritual fermentation. Some emerge altered, others never emerge.
The Shatter Rite – A tradition of breaking something precious (glassware, bone, or weapon) at the start of a new journey. The act catalyzes transformation and invokes divine favor.
Relationship to Other Faiths
The Reagent Covenant is tolerated by some, feared by most. Order-based religions mistrust its volatility; death-based faiths dispute its view of decay as sacred transmutation. Even gods of creation hesitate before the Covenant’s belief that destruction is just another step in creation.
It has an uneasy tension with The Prime Causality (which values precision and balanced motion), and a chaotic cousinhood with aspects of The Vivis Codex, sharing a belief in sacred change — though the Codex values preservation through mutation, while the Covenant burns and rebuilds entirely.
