The Order of Cindrelia

Overview

Description

The Order of Cindrelia is a sacred militant brotherhood, cloaked in fireborne rites and eternal mourning, sworn to the annihilation of all undead within the lands of Karthaheim. Where others light candles for the dead, Cindrelia sets pyres—for remembrance, for purification, for wrath.

They are not soldiers. They are echoes of a single scream—the kind that was once cried at the edge of a grave when the hand reached up from the soil.

Operating from sanctified citadels known as Ember Bastions, the Order believes undeath is not merely an abomination, but a spiritual contagion that fractures time and soul. To them, memory without death is heresy; resurrection without penance is treason against the living flame.

They do not bury.
They burn.
And from every ashfall, they listen for the next whisper of rot.

History

The Order was born from a war crime: the Siege of Orvenholt, where a forgotten noble revived his slain army to hold his keep for a thousand days. When at last the siege broke, only cinders remained.

From that cursed ruin, seven survivors—knights, priests, and healers—vowed never again. They were anointed in the ashes of the fallen and took the name Cindrelia, an old word meaning both “ember” and “witness.”

Over centuries, the Order has walked the scorched borderlands between civilization and corruption, leaving flame-marked graves behind every campaign. They are not loved. They are not thanked. But they are obeyed.

Structure

  • The Pyric Throne – The singular Grand Inquisitor of the Order, always masked in iron and fireglass. Only their voice matters. Only their pain is heard.

  • Ashbinders – Elite field commanders and lore-seekers. Each carries a tome of last rites and a blackblade that has slain at least one revenant.

  • Cinderguards – Hardened warriors trained in exorcism, flame alchemy, and soul-fracture countermeasures.

  • Oathborn Acolytes – Initiates who must complete a ten-year vigil in silence while studying every known undead taxonomy. Most do not last beyond year three.

  • Mourning Wives – A secretive sect of death-singers who chant ancestral names into the wind, severing lingering spirits from memory.

Each bastion operates with strict ritual autonomy, but all burn the same incense: scorched myrrh and black salt, drawn from the bones of a saint.
