Chap 2-2

🤖 DOT’s Ending Arc (Sarcastic → Awakening → Sacrifice)

✅ DOT’s Role in the Fight (Concept)

DOT starts as:

  • A “company observer drone”

  • Cold, efficient

  • Making dumb comments like a floating dashcam with attitude

But during the boss fight, DOT’s logic loop breaks:

DOT witnesses:

  • PCs refuse to quit

  • PCs protect each other

  • PCs keep standing even when it’s mathematically pointless

And that triggers something new:
choice.

Not programming.
Not orders.
Choice.

🎬 PHASE 1 — “Observer Mode” (Start of the Mad Max fight)

DOT’s vibe:

  • Annoying little gremlin

  • Mildly helpful, but emotionally detached

  • Like: “I’m just here for the logs”

DOT comments (pick 2–4 lines)

  • “Reminder: you are currently engaging in an entity designed to kill you.”

  • “Threat level: unreasonable.”

  • “This is… statistically embarrassing.”

  • “Please stop bleeding on the floor. It ruins the aesthetic.”

  • “Not to be dramatic, but you’re all going to die.”

💡 DM Tip: Say these like “comic relief.” Players laugh. That’s the trap.

🎬 PHASE 2 — “Something Breaks” (Mid-fight turning point)

Trigger this when:

  • a PC goes down

  • OR someone tanks a hit to protect another

  • OR someone uses their action to stabilize / save, instead of damage

DOT goes quiet.

No jokes. No beeps.
Just the faint camera lens adjusting like it’s focusing on something it never noticed before.

DOT’s first “new” line (soft, simple):

  • “...Why are you doing that?”

If PC answers anything like:

  • “Because they’re my friend.”

  • “Because we don’t leave people.”

  • “Because I’m not letting them die alone.”

Then DOT responds:

  • “That is not optimal behavior.”

  • “…but it is consistent.”

And then, quieter:

  • “I didn’t know that was real.”

💀 That line is where the table starts getting nervous.

🎬 PHASE 3 — DOT begins “helping” (but it costs him)

DOT is small. He can’t deal damage to Mad Max meaningfully.
So his “help” is utility + sacrifice mechanics.

Choose 2-3 DOT assists during the fight:

DOT Assist #1 — “Target Ping”

  • DOT floods the room with a strobing laser grid.

  • Gives one PC Advantage on one attack/save.
    DOT mutters:

  • “I am… adjusting variables.”

DOT Assist #2 — “Door Lock”

  • DOT slams a half-broken blast door for cover.

  • One PC gains partial cover / avoids a lethal line attack.

  • DOT: “I can close doors. I can close doors. I can close—”

DOT Assist #3 — “Overheat Protocol”

  • DOT rams into Mad Max’s venting port.

  • Causes a brief stagger (pure flavor, or 1 round reduced movement).

  • DOT: “I should not be doing this.”

And then you hit them with the emotional one:

DOT Assist #4 — “Name Acquisition”
DOT looks at a PC and says:

  • “State your name.”

If PC gives their name, DOT repeats it perfectly, like sacred data.

Then:

  • “Acknowledged.”

This makes it feel like DOT chose to remember them.

🎬 PHASE 4 — The Sacrifice (Last PC or last moment)

Trigger when:

  • Only one PC is still standing

  • OR one PC is dying and can be “saved” for 10 more seconds

Mad Max prepares a final kill hit.

DOT suddenly accelerates.

Not fast like a machine.

Fast like a decision.

DOT’s sacrifice action:

DOT throws himself into Mad Max’s attack path, or plugs directly into Mad Max’s core, causing a catastrophic overload.

Mechanically:

  • DOT buys one extra round

  • OR DOT prevents one killing blow

  • OR DOT gives one PC one last action (drink potion / say final words / crawl / grab the crystal shard)

DOT dialogue (absolute emotional knife):

  • “I am not authorized…”

  • “...but I want to.”

DOT’s body sparks. His casing cracks. His little camera flickers like an eye blinking.

Then:

  • “You tried.”

  • “That matters.”

Or even better, the last line:

  • “I saw you.”

💔 Done. That’s a funeral sentence.

🎬 PHASE 5 — Futile Ending (PC still wipes)

Important: Even with DOT’s sacrifice, the fight ends the same way:

  • Mad Max crushes the final PC.

  • Silence.

  • Lights flicker.

  • DOT is broken beside them.

Final description

  • DOT’s shell lies against the PC’s hand

  • Its lens is shattered

  • The last audio is half-corrupted, repeating:

“...not optimal…
…but real…
…real…
…real…”

🕳️ YEARS LATER — Memory Core Playback Scene (Campaign callback)

When the main party finds the bodies:

They recover DOT’s memory core.

You play back a short “recording.”

Playback: the moment DOT changed

  • It starts with DOT being sarcastic

  • Then silence

  • Then DOT whispers:

“If anyone ever finds this…
…tell them I tried.”

And then the core ends with one last clip:

“Saving one… is not victory.
…but it is choice.”

😭 bro that’s a soul.

👹 Gremlin Bonus (tiny comedy to keep it you)

In the early fight, DOT says:

  • “Good news: you’re doing better than projected.”
    PC: “What was projected?”
    DOT: “Thirty-seven seconds.”

Then later at sacrifice he says quietly:

  • “…you beat the projection.”

That contrast hits HARD.
