Overview

“Order did not survive the end of the world. Discipline did.”
— Engraved above the Gate of Braukstahl, origin unknown

Forged from the ruins of post-apocalyptic Germany, Drachenhalt is a nation that refused chaos by mastering it. Where others shattered or fled, Drachenhalt locked its jaw and rebuilt with iron law, machine logic, and ritualized industry. It is not warm. It is not kind. But it endures.

Once the industrial heart of Europe, Drachenhalt survived the Collision through bunker-networks, subterranean factories, and ruthless consolidation. City-states were absorbed or annihilated. Resources were seized, rationed, and retooled. From this crucible emerged a culture that prizes function over mercy and structure over hope.

Drachenhalt is a land of:

  • Blackened foundry-cities crowned with smokestacks and rune-sigils

  • Fortress highways carved through ruined urban belts

  • Rail-lines guarded like borders, humming with forbidden power

  • Ancient forests reduced to controlled preserves or burned entirely

It does not dream of the future.
It manufactures it.

Geography

Drachenhalt’s terrain is compact, dense, and brutally optimized—every region shaped by labor, extraction, and control.

The Iron Belt (Central Industrial Heartland)

  • Endless manufactoria, forge-hives, and refinery cities built atop old metropolitan cores

  • The densest concentration of rune-reactors and heavy industry in Europe

  • Skies permanently dimmed by smoke and particulate ash

  • Home to cities like Braukstahl, Neu-Essen, and Kesselmark

This is the engine of the nation. Everything else exists to feed it.

The Schwarzwald Exclusion Zone (Southern Forests)

  • Once the Black Forest—now a partially quarantined biome

  • Monicue-tainted flora, predatory growths, and biomechanical wildlife

  • Used for experimental harvesting and controlled hunts

  • Rumored to house failed Dämmerlicht experiments that were never terminated

The trees here grow around metal. Some grow through it.

The Rhine Scar (Western Ruin Corridor)

  • A shattered river basin turned into a logistics artery

  • Collapsed bridges reinforced into fortress crossings

  • Heavy Schattenzug Logistics presence

  • Border skirmishes, smuggling routes, and black-market enclaves thrive here

The river still flows—but it carries ash, scrap, and bodies.

The Alpine Lock (Southern Mountain Fortresses)

  • Fortified highland complexes built into the Alps

  • Climate-stable vault cities protected from storms and incursions

  • Houses military academies, strategic reserves, and sealed archives

  • Entry strictly controlled—citizenship alone is not sufficient

They call it the Lock because nothing leaves without permission.

The Grey Marches (Eastern Border Zones)

  • Semi-autonomous industrial towns and buffer territories

  • Frequent mercenary activity and proxy conflicts

  • Used to test new weapons, doctrines, and population controls

  • Where law thins and survival becomes contractual

Officially Drachenhalt territory. Practically a proving ground.

Culture and Life

  • Clothing: Heavy work coats, reinforced boots, respirators, insignia bands denoting labor class and clearance

  • Housing: Modular concrete blocks, repurposed bunkers, factory-adjacent habitation towers

  • Cuisine: Dense ration loaves, protein bricks, vat-grown meats, blackroot liquor

  • Beliefs: Pragmatic fatalism. Machines are trusted more than gods. Some revere the Great Engine—a symbolic construct representing order through labor

  • Art & Expression: Industrial murals, precision music, synchronized labor chants, forbidden underground operas mocking authority

In Drachenhalt, art exists—but only where it does not interfere with output.

Joy is tolerated.
Idleness is not.
