Overview
The Abyzzari are a striking and resilient race of planar survivors, born from the chaos of Noxarium—a realm that was essentially a cosmic battlefield for rival Demon Kings. While they share an ancestral link to the infernal, they were never the masters of their home; they were the artisans, the scholars, and the common folk caught between the grinding gears of demonic ambition. When the Great Scattering occurred, they fled into the multiverse, carrying their vibrant skin tones and jagged horns as a testament to their heritage. Across the Dyade, they are often viewed with a mix of awe and suspicion—living reminders that even in the deepest hells, beauty and culture can survive.
For eons, the Abyzzari lived in the shadow of the Demon Kings of Noxarium. They survived by being useful, becoming masters of low-level planar magic and architectural stability in a realm that constantly tried to tear itself apart. However, as the wars between the Kings escalated into "The Total Severance," the Abyzzari realized their home was doomed. They didn't just leave; they escaped in a massive, desperate exodus through unstable rifts. This history of being "the people between the fires" has made them incredibly tight-knit. They don't see themselves as demons, but as the civilized soul of a realm that lost its mind.
History and Lore
The Noxarium Collapse: The Abyzzari didn't leave their home by choice. Noxarium was consumed by endless wars between ancient demon-kings who viewed the Abyzzari as collateral damage.
The Great Migration: Seeking refuge, they used unstable portals to flee to Karthaheim and eventually Earth-shards. Many, like Theodine and her brother Emil, were scattered across different human kingdoms just before the Calamity.
The Calamity Trauma: When the worlds collided, the Abyzzari’s sensitive connection to planar energy made them vulnerable. Many were captured by slavers or raiders, leading to a diaspora of survivors who are either hiding in shadows or seeking vengeance.
Physical Descriptions
The Horns of Noxarium: Their most defining feature. No two pairs are alike. Some possess sweeping, majestic ram-like horns, while others have sharp, obsidian spires, or even small, crown-like nubs. The shape often reflects their family lineage.
Aura of Melancholy: They possess a naturally quiet and poetic demeanor, often moving with a grace that suggests they are walking through a dream.
Ethereal Features: Their skin often has a pale, almost translucent quality, and their eyes may shift colors like a twilight sky.
A Spectrum of Twilight: Their skin is a vibrant canvas of "bruised" colors. You'll see deep indigo blues, royal purples, rich crimson reds, soft blossom pinks, and even stony, ash-greys.
Fragility: While magically resonant, they are physically more fragile than humans or orcs, relying on their evasion and mystical defenses.
Culture and Society
The Burden of Memory: Abyzzari society is built on the preservation of what was lost. They are chroniclers and mourners who believe that if a name is forgotten, the soul truly dies.
Refugee Bonds: Because they have no true home, they form deep, almost obsessive bonds with their "found families." Losing a loved one is considered a spiritual catastrophe.
Magical Utility: Almost all Abyzzari can perform minor "Cantrips of the Void"—small manipulations of shadow, sound, or temperature—used mostly for daily convenience or defense.
Common Abyzzari Sayings
"The sky remembers even when the stars go out."
"We are the ink, Noxarium was the page."
"Don't wake the ghosts unless you have a place for them to sit."
"A home is just a memory with a roof."
Quote
"Pass the Nox-Pepper stew. If my tongue isn't bleeding, I can't feel the magic properly. It’s a sensory thing, you wouldn't get it." — Kaelen, Abyzzari Mercenary
