📖 BACKSTORY
Before the world broke, Naide Ulara was a child of sunlight and swaying leaves in the unified kingdom of Azalesia. Her childhood was defined by the mundane peace of elven life—the scent of rain on ancient bark and the soft lullabies of a family that expected to see her grow for centuries. But the Calamity did not care for elven longevity. When the sky fractured and the earth began to scream, Naide’s world ended in a heartbeat of fire. Her last memory of home is the desperate, tear-streaked faces of her parents as they forced a chaotic, shimmering rift open. They didn't have time for goodbyes; they only had time to throw their daughter into the unknown to save her from the encroaching Maw.
The portal didn't entirely deliver her to safety; it spat her out like a piece of refuse into a nightmare of grey concrete and rusted iron. Naide found herself in the skeletal remains of a post-apocalyptic Vietnam, a harsh world with interesting looking language characters she couldn't read and a sky choked with post-apocalyptic smog. A teenager lost in time and space, she became a ghost of the ruins. She survived by huddling in the lightless corners of crumbling tenements, her elven grace reduced to the twitchy, desperate movements of a starving animal. She learned to steal before she learned to speak the local tongue, her childhood innocence rotting away in the shadows of a world that didn't even know her race existed.
Desperation eventually drove her into the arms of a petty crime syndicate—a collection of displaced Karthaheim survivors who had traded their dignity for a chance to see tomorrow. They were her family of necessity, but in a world this cruel, even necessity has a price. During a botched raid on a high-tier gang’s vault, the world turned red once more. Naide watched as her comrades were slaughtered or mutilated for sport. The gang, realizing she was a mage who required vocal components for her spells, decided to take from her the one thing she had left: her voice. They beat her, they broke her body in the most horrific ways imaginable, and then they carved the tongue from her mouth to ensure she would never cast a word of defiance again.
Reduced to a mute shadow, Naide was sold into the shivering dark of the slave trade. She was packed into a cargo container like a shipment of synthetic drugs, a nameless "inventory item" bound for the black markets of Kumokuni. She spent weeks in that metal coffin, breathing in chemical fumes and her own despair, slowly dying of infection and a heart that had finally given up. By the time the Kurohana Order intercepted the Hellions' transport, Naide wasn't even fighting to breathe. She was a heap of ashen skin and matted hair, a broken doll waiting for the incinerator.
It was Fūma Tenzai (風魔 天罪), the squad captain, and later on the legendary head of the Fūma Clan, who pulled her from the wreckage. Where others saw a dying refugee, Tenzai saw a spark of "The Void"—a girl who had lived in the dark for so long that the shadows had begun to recognize her as their own. Moved by a rare moment of pity for the "child" who had survived a dozen deaths, he did the unthinkable: he brought an outsider into the heart of the Fūma estate. He didn't just give her a bed; he gave her a purpose. He installed the cybernetic brain-chip that allowed her to project her thoughts into the minds of those tuned to her frequency, finally ending the suffocating silence that had been her prison.
Growing up in the shadow of Tenzai’s daughter, Mio (澪), Naide learned that family wasn't just blood—it was the person who sat with you when the night terrors made you scream without a sound. Mio became her anchor, her sister in every way that mattered. Yet, the Order’s laws were absolute. On the day Naide completed her grueling trials, she was denied the Fūma name. Instead, she was dubbed "Kageyori"—Shadowbringer. A title that acknowledged her skill but marked her forever as a guest, a weapon to be used by the clan but never truly one of them. She serves the Kurohana Order with a lethal, silent efficiency, but her loyalty isn't to the Black Flower or the Cloud City—it is to the man and girl who held her hand when the shadows tried to take her back.
