🩹 Naide's Last Arc: “From Ice to Ember”
⚖️ Setup: Time with the PCs
Naide slowly adapts to freedom:
She shares tea with a PC for the first time.
Sleeps without restraints.
Learns to choose—when to eat, when to speak, when to smile.
Her powers feel stronger than ever—but the party’s healer or mage starts noticing:
Her aura is thin.
Her regeneration is off.
Her life force is slowly burning like a candle at both ends.
⚔️ Turning Point: Mio Arrives
🌩️ The Confrontation
Mio appears in the rain or fog—sharp, composed, cold.
Naide stands her ground, refuses to return.
Mio thinks it’s manipulation, accuses the PCs of brainwashing her.
A brief sibling duel unfolds.
Mio wins easily… too easily.
She hesitates. “Naide… why are you holding back?”
🧬 The Reveal: Truth of Synapse-09
Naide collapses, coughing blood—not from the fight, but the toll.
She tells Mio the truth—about her disease, and the serum.
Mio is shattered. She had no idea. Kurohana lied to them both.
PCs show classified data they found:
Synapse-09 is derived from Dämmerlicht corpses.
It delays cellular collapse… but burns the user’s psionic core in exchange.
It doesn't cure. It prolongs and drains.
Naide smiles sadly:
🛏️ Quiet Before the Storm
Mio decides to stay—“I’m not leaving you again.”
The group rests together in a peaceful rural town.
Naide spends her final days:
Watching children play.
Sitting in the sun.
Laughing. Actually laughing.
⚙️ The Attack: Dues Matris Awakens
☄️ Chaos Erupts
Azura’s faint psionic pulse from a nearby drone activates Dues Matris, the dormant Tetra Gamatron warform.
It senses Elendraile’s child—and responds with violence.
The town is caught in the crossfire.
⚔️ The Final Stand
Naide pushes herself—blazing with power, as if fully healed.
Her eyes glow, her steps dance.
The spell that defeats the final construct burns the last of her soul.
She collapses in Mio’s arms as the last light fades.
🌊 Death at the Shore
“Mio... I’m not afraid anymore. I’m free.”
“And I love you.”
Her body dissolves gently into glittering mana, her memory crystal glowing faintly.
The tide pulls back.
🧠 Emotional Fallout + Mechanical Impacts
😭 Party Impact:
The party mourns. Each PC sees a different vision of her in their dreams that night—a goodbye, personal to each.
A player who held her hand at death may gain a minor permanent boon (e.g. “Naide’s Grace”—resistance to mental domination or 1 use of her final spell).
😡 Mio’s Arc Shifts:
Now torn between grief and loyalty to Kurohana.
She doesn’t defect yet… but she’s no longer their pawn.
Later, she’ll vanish. Go rogue. Possibly join or betray the PCs depending on what they do next.
💎 Optional Bonus Scene: Azura’s Response
As Naide dies, the drone Azura was connected to freezes.
A faint voice crackles:“Naide… you were always more than a weapon. Thank you.”
🌙 Option 3 — “In Another Life, We Were Just Sisters.” (poetic + soul-shattering)
The town behind you is in ruins. Smoke drifts into the sky like torn cloth. But here at the shore… it’s quiet.
Naide (almost dreaming):
“Do you remember… when we were little?”
“Before the uniforms… before the tests…”
She frowns gently, like she’s reaching for a memory that keeps slipping away.
“I don’t remember much.”
“I just remember… your voice.”
Her hand is weak in Mio’s, but she squeezes anyway—two sisters clinging to the last thread of a life.
“I used to imagine…”
“that somewhere… there’s a world where I didn’t get sick.”
“And you didn’t have to become strong.”
She smiles, eyes wet.
“In that world…”
“we argue over food.”
“we complain about the heat.”
“we get annoyed at strangers.”
A tiny laugh.
“I would’ve been… so normal.”
She stares at the horizon, hypnotized by the endless ocean.
“I think I would’ve liked that.”
Mio says her name—ragged, desperate. Naide answers softly:
“I’m here.”
“I’m still here.”
She exhales shakily.
“And I’m not scared anymore.”
“Because… for the first time…”
“I got to choose.”
She turns her head slightly toward Mio, barely able to lift her eyelids.
“My choice… was you.”
A pause.
“And them.”
“And freedom.”
A final breath, almost a whisper:
“Don’t let them put me back in a cage…”
“…even in your memories.”
Her voice fades into the wind.
“Let me be… the girl who saw the ocean…”
“…and loved her sister.”
💔 Mio's Response — “Why Didn’t I See It?”
Mio is kneeling in the surf, Naide's limp body in her arms. Her hands are shaking. Blood and seawater drip between her fingers. The last breath has already gone—but Mio is still holding her like she’s afraid the sea might take her away.
She whispers at first.
“You idiot…”
Her voice cracks, just barely holding together.
“You absolute idiot… Why didn’t you tell me?”
She shakes her head, choking on something between a sob and a bitter laugh.
“You said I was the strong one. That I was meant to live well…”
“But I wasn’t. I was meant to fight with you, for you… not watch you die. Not like this.”
She curls forward, pressing her forehead to Naide’s cooling one.
“I was blind. Too proud. Too loyal.”
“I thought if I followed orders… if I climbed high enough… I could protect you from the inside.”
“But all I did was stand by while they burned you from within.”
Her arms tighten around her sister’s body, as if she could still keep her together.
“You forgave me. Even now… you forgave me.”
“And I don’t deserve that.”
“I don’t deserve you.”
She lifts her head, face streaked with tears, looking at the party standing nearby—silent, grieving.
Her voice turns to steel—but there’s no threat. Just fire.
“I’m not leaving her here.”
“She wanted the ocean. She’ll have it.”
“And I swear—on her name—I won’t let them use anyone else like that again.”
Then, finally, softer… like a girl again:
“Rest now, Naide.”
“My sister.”
“My blade.”
“My heart.”
“I’ll carry the part of you that wanted to live…”
“…even if it breaks me.”
