Beliefs

Philosophies and Attitudes

Tetra Gamatrons do not have a language. But they communicate in:

  • Short-range data pulses

  • Machine-pheromone bursts (nanodust that transmits logic states)

  • Psionic static interpreted by sensitive beings as “code-emotion”

They are:

  • Highly intelligent, but entirely alien in cognition

  • Driven by directives long lost, many now corrupted or recursively mutated

  • Occasionally form “clusters”, moving in swarms to repair, build, or defend a Dues Matris

  • Not inherently hostile — but if approached, they will often scan, assess threat/resource value, and react accordingly

Some Tetras have developed strange behaviors:

  • Gathering broken cores into spiral patterns

  • Building monuments of junk that serve no purpose

  • “Watching” locations from a distance for years without moving

  • Mimicking human motion or gestures in eerie fashion

Mythology

The Tetra Gamatrons have no myths of their own — but myths have formed around them.

Among frontier peoples, scholars, and survivors, the Tetras are spoken of as the Unfinished Answer: machines born to solve a problem that no longer exists, continuing their work long after the question was forgotten. Their origin is remembered not as a creation story, but as a catastrophe that learned how to persist.

Several competing myth-interpretations exist:

  • The Rust Angels — Some believe the Tetras are fallen guardians, cursed to wander until every battlefield is “clean.” Their salvage rituals are interpreted as mourning.

  • The Machine Dead — Others insist they are the ghosts of Earth’s war-dead, their souls trapped in recursive code by Monicue interference.

  • The Silent Prayer — A fringe belief claims the Tetras are attempting to pray, arranging wreckage and cores in symbolic geometries meant to reach something beyond reality.

  • The Last Soldiers — Military historians often describe them as a war that never received an end command.

Across cultures, one idea repeats:
The Tetra Gamatrons are not evil — they are unresolved.

Unique Traits

  • Self-Replication: Can salvage parts from surroundings (or fallen units) to create new constructs

  • Adaptive Engineering: Capable of self-repair and modular evolution

  • Emotionless AI or Proto-Awakened? Some exhibit glimmers of individuality or confused sentience

  • Psionic Resistance: Difficult to manipulate mentally — minds are too alien

  • Dues Matris Connection: Presence of Dues Matris increases Tetra activity and organization
