Philosophies and Attitudes
Despite being dead, the Undead of Umbral Vex operate under a structured ideology defined by function, reverence, and purpose.
The Body is a Tool: Flesh is meaningless. Bone is useful. Form is irrelevant if function is pure.
The Will of Nhafadi is Absolute: The Undead King’s will is law — not because of tyranny, but because it works.
Death is Liberation: Life is a burden of need, chaos, and fear. Death is clarity.
Memory is a Resource: Some undead carry dozens of personalities or recorded memories. Knowledge is immortality.
Reverence for Structure: Rot, chaos, and independence are threats. Orders, hierarchy, and rituals keep undeath stable.
Most undead are not emotional, though some retain fragments of old identity. Few speak of regret. Most are content to serve — or simply cannot disobey.
“Obedience is peace. Function is freedom.”
— Standard Vexian Combat Doctrine, etched into femurs of field units
Mythology
Though the Undead of Umbral Vex are not a religious people in the living sense, their society is built upon a mythologized history centered around Nhafadi Zotan Ur’Nezu, the Undead King.
He is not merely a ruler — he is the first perfected immortal, the breaker of soul-chaos, and the anchor-point of their reality. In Vexian mythology, life was a flawed prototype, and undeath is the refined version — cold, efficient, and eternal.
Core Myths:
The Tether Severed – The moment Nhafadi unlocked Vex’s Law and became more than mortal. This is considered the true “Genesis” of their kind.
The Bone Accord – A philosophical myth describing how the dead made pact with structure itself, ending the chaos of flesh.
The Soulstorm Silence – A legendary event in which Nhafadi is said to have silenced a Monicue storm by absorbing the souls it stirred — a metaphor for control through death.
There are no temples in Umbral Vex — but every crypt, ossuary, and soul-forge is treated with ritual precision, and their architecture is shaped by the belief that function is sacred.
Unique Traits
Soul-Voided: Undead have no lingering soul — reanimated under Vex’s Law for perfect stability
Obedient Programming: Most cannot disobey direct orders from above
Psionic Immunity: Many undead are immune to psychic manipulation unless designed otherwise
Modular Resurrection: Can be disassembled and rebuilt with ease — death is a delay, not an end
Memory Implants: Graveminds and Savants can carry dozens of minds, stitched into one undead host
