Ash Runs Red
🎭 MQ1 – "Firewall Breach"
The PCs emerge from the lower testing levels, but they're still within the Bastion Thorne complex. The inner perimeter goes on for kilometers—defense towers, motion sensors, high fences, and armored patrol routes.
Challenges:
Fight or stealth past initial security drones
Navigate utility tunnels, broken labs, or half-collapsed observation towers
Avoid triggering a full lockdown
Optional Hook:
A dying facility worker whispers about an old airstrip in Sector D-4—abandoned but still power-linked.
🎭 MQ2 – "Eyes Above"
Military sensor towers and hunter drones acquire visual. Searchlights sweep the terrain. AI-controlled turrets begin scanning psionic signatures.
Challenges:
Disable or overload sensor beacons
Use terrain to break line of sight
Split the party to confuse trackers
Optional Hook:
One drone recognizes a PC’s heat signature—pulls from Bastion logs that list them as a “Candidate for Psynapse Re-Integration.”
🎭MQ3 – "The Boneyard Run"
The party stumbles into Scrapfield Theta, a graveyard of downed mechs, drones, and old war wreckage. It's a maze of rust, fire, and forgotten tech.
Challenges:
Navigate through unstable wrecks
Face an ambush from a Black Vulture scout team
Find salvageable weapons, gear, or vehicle parts
Optional Hook:
A half-buried Dämmerlicht exosuit recognizes a PC's neural pattern. It whispers a warning: “They're baiting you.”
🎭MQ4 – "Beacon Sabotage"
Internal scans confirm what one PC suspected: they've all been implanted with subdermal trackers linked to their neural dampeners.
Challenges:
Perform emergency surgery with stolen medkits to remove implants
Risk detection by using EMP bursts to disable them
Trust an NPC ally (Rykka or another) to handle the extraction
Consequences:
Failing to remove all trackers causes immediate tactical drone reinforcements mid-escape
🎭MQ5 – "The East Tower Gambit"
The party reaches an old control tower overlooking Launch Bay 2—still powered but crawling with sentries. From here, they can scan for aerial escape options and jam comms temporarily.
Challenges:
Stealth or fight through the tower’s command floor
Reactivate long-range radar without triggering alerts
Learn that only one VTOL is flight-ready… and it's locked down
Optional Hook:
A corrupted AI fragment from the Hollow Core appears on a monitor, addresses a PC by name, and offers... guidance.
🎭MQ6 – "Storm the Sky"
The VTOL is located in Hangar Kappa—secured and guarded. There’s a 10-minute window before reinforcements arrive.
Challenges:
Reach the hangar without being flanked by armored response squads
Overload the security gate or bypass using a biometric trick
Deal with a miniboss-level opponent (e.g., Prototype Theta-1 or a Black Vulture Commander)
Optional Hook:
A civilian pilot is trapped near the ship. Saving them could grant flight expertise… or be a liability.
🎭MQ7 – "Dead Sky Climb"
The party powers up the VTOL, but automated systems reject the launch due to "biological contamination."
Challenges:
Hack the launch OS while holding the perimeter
Manually reroute the fuel and ignition system
Survive a desperate last wave—drone swarm, turret suppression, or airborne troops rappelling in
Twist:
The ship lifts off while partially damaged. One PC may need to stay behind briefly to stabilize the launch—nearly dying in the process.
🎭MQ8 – "Ash Runs Red"
Midair, the ship is pursued by a pair of strike drones or an aerial interceptor. The sky battle begins in full view of Bastion's outer towers.
Challenges:
PCs may need to man turrets, reroute shield power, or even leap to redirect a missile manually
A choice arises: eject a portion of the ship's cargo to lighten the load—or risk full stall
One NPC ally (e.g., Rykka) may be mortally wounded during the escape
Optional Hook:
One drone's AI seems familiar… it uses phrases spoken during Project Aegis Null experiments. It’s learning.
🎭MQ9 – "Fallout"
The escape succeeds… partially. The ship clears Bastion’s reach, but not without damage. Black smoke trails behind them. A storm brews ahead.
Consequences:
The PCs are now fugitives—worldwide
Military command activates Recuperatoris Protocol: a global effort to hunt and eliminate psionic defectors
The VTOL's systems are failing—they’ll need to crash-land or emergency land soon
Hooks for Chapter 5:
One PC shows early signs of Psynapse Drift, triggered by proximity to Hollow Core or recent combat stress
A coded transmission intercepts their escape signal:
“Unknown vessel cleared Bastion airspace. Forward to Echo Contingency. Initiate contact.”A mysterious settlement appears on the horizon, cloaked in haze, untouched by military patrols…
