Volume 2: Elegy for the Unforgiven

Chap 4

Gilded Lies, Loaded Dice

🎭 MQ1 – "Honor in Coin Toss"

Synopsis:
The heist mission begins with an unexpected twist. As the PCs prepare to secure the mysterious goods, they're intercepted by Armaros and Volomorg, two legendary enforcers with their own claim on the prize. But instead of immediately attacking, the duo engages in a ridiculously prolonged rock-paper-scissors showdown—repeating the same signs until frustration drives them to flip a coin.

The loser? Faces the party solo.

Subquests:

  • “Let Fate Decide” – Watch or interfere in the duo’s drawn-out argument and comedic coin toss. Hilarity ensues, but danger simmers underneath.

  • “One Must Fall” – Face a brutal 1v5 duel against either Armaros (ruthless tactician) or Volomorg (reckless brawler). It's serious… until it’s not.

  • “The Gift of Defeat” – Upon defeat, the enemy yields the goods and leaves without further violence, honoring the outcome.

Lore Hooks:

  • Tease their mysterious employers—Kumokuni? Eclipse Aeterna?

  • These two will return later… either as enemies, rivals, or chaotic allies.

🎭 MQ2 – "Echoes in the Smoke"

Synopsis:
Returning to Al Quasaran, the party’s exploits spark rumors, bard songs, and hushed awe. Their name becomes synonymous with madness and victory. At Venomspire, they’re treated like royalty—and watched like criminals.

Subquests:

  • “Tales of the Unbeatable Five” – Experience the wild exaggerations spreading across the city.

  • “Spilled Ink and Shadows” – A Vultaire scribe interviews the party for potential contract escalation. But something about him feels off.

  • “Eavesdrop and Earn” – Uncover whispers that one of the defeated enemies (or their employer) placed a bounty on them.

RP Hooks:

  • Venomspire becomes a social hub: drinking contests, bragging rights, card games, bar fights, dancer duels.

  • Meet shady clients, hopeful allies, and rivals-in-the-making.

🎭 MQ3 – "An Audience with Nyxthalia"

Synopsis:
Summoned by Lady Nyxthalia, Queen of Spiders and shadow matron of The Krey, the party is rewarded for their success—and warned of the game they’ve just entered. She’s elegant, terrifying, and seems to already know far too much about each of them.

Subquests:

  • “Webs and Warnings” – Navigate the social tightrope in Lady Nyxthalia’s lair. Answer her cryptic questions wisely.

  • “Token of the Queen” – Receive a gift tailored to each PC: gear, coin, intel… or a cryptic prophecy.

Lore Hooks:

  • Learn that Nyxthalia is cousin to Vampire Duke Alerron. The Krey’s reach is global.

  • The next quest will not just raise the stakes—it will drag them across the sky.

🎭 MQ4 – "Cyber Heist Proposal"

Synopsis:
The Krey delivers their boldest request yet: steal advanced 5th Gen cybernetic neuron chips from Kumokuni. These are not mere upgrades—they are weapons of evolution. But no one simply walks into Kumokuni.

Subquests:

  • “The Invisible Ladder” – PCs are briefed on Kumokuni’s floating cities, their elite tech, and their deadly enforcers.

  • “The Cost of Trust” – PCs must give up something—information, favors, or loyalty—to even begin planning this job.

RP Hooks:

  • The Krey emphasizes: the goal isn’t all the chips. Just the right ones.

  • "But if you happen to keep one or two... I’ll look the other way."

🎭 MQ5 – "Sails to Drachenhalt"

Synopsis:
To infiltrate Kumokuni, the party must first reach Braukstahl in Drachenhalt, a mist-shrouded port city ruled by trade syndicates and old money. There, they’ll approach Shattenzug Logistics, a company known for legal shipping above the table—and smuggling anything below it.

Subquests:

  • “Storm in the Hold” – Survive a perilous sea journey. Pirate attack? Leviathan encounter? Smuggler test?

  • “Port of Whispers” – Explore Drachenhalt’s bustling black markets and coded trade networks.

Lore Hooks:

  • Drachenhalt is a city of masks. Everything is for sale, but trust comes hard.

  • First glimpses of Kumokuni’s watchers may appear—long before arrival.

🎭 MQ6 – "Shattenzug's Trial"

Synopsis:
The smugglers agree to consider the deal—but only if the party can prove themselves. Smuggling people into Kumokuni is the highest crime on the floating city's books. Failure means execution. Shattenzug wants loyalty without strings.

Subquests:

  • “Beneath the Salt” – Investigate and sabotage a rival smuggling op leaking intel to Kumokuni authorities.

  • “The Missing Shipment” – Retrieve lost cargo guarded by mutated sea-wretches—or find out who really took it.

  • “Silken Betrayal” – Deal with a mole within Shattenzug threatening to expose the PCs’ involvement.

RP Hooks:

  • This arc reveals the brutal cost of loyalty in the underworld.

  • PCs can shape alliances or burn bridges depending on how they solve these tasks.

🎭 MQ7 – "The Gate to the Clouds"

Synopsis:
With trust earned, Shattenzug and PCs finalize the plan. The party is to gather as much intel as possible, know the map, locations, strategy, plan, disguised, and quietly “shipped” to Kumokuni under false cargo manifests. This is a one-way ticket into the heart of a sovereign tech-driven technocracy.

Subquests:

  • “In Transit” – Prepare for the journey. Final RP moments in Drachenhalt. Farewells, purchases, promises.

  • “Manifest of the Damned” – Travel in tight quarters with odd cargo. Possible stowaway, malfunction, or ambush.

  • “The Drop” – Arrival in Kumokuni... the last place in the world you want to be caught.

Lore Hooks:

  • Hints that Naide is already on your trail.

  • One of the chips you’ll steal? It’s not just tech. It’s her.
