The Price of Staying Alive
🎭 MQ1 – “Quiet Systems, Open Hands”
Synopsis:
For the first time since Azura Mark I’s awakening, the party is not under immediate threat. They remain in Al Quasaran, laying low and recovering. Naide stays with them by choice—not bound, not guarded. Just… present. This quiet stretch becomes a rare moment of team bonding, where wounds are tended, routines emerge, and something unfamiliar begins to form: trust.
Azura Mark I behaves differently now. She doesn’t just monitor—she comments, asks questions, and lingers during conversations. Her presence feels less like equipment and more like a companion finding her footing.
Subquests:
“Shared Space” – A low-stakes bonding scene: cooking, gear maintenance, rooftop watching, or cards. Naide participates in small, awkward ways.
“Azura, Unscripted” – PCs interact with Azura Mark I and notice emerging personality traits—preferences, humor, curiosity.
“Questions Naide Doesn’t Dodge” – Naide answers personal questions she would once have deflected: her early training, fragments of childhood, or what she remembers before Kumokuni.
RP Hooks:
Naide admits she doesn’t know how to exist without orders.
Azura asks a PC what “home” means, then quietly records the answer.
Naide laughs once—soft, surprised—and then goes still, as if unsure she’s allowed to.
🎭 MQ2 – “Searching for a Pause”
Synopsis:
Rest does not stop Naide’s decline. Her breathing worsens, recovery slows, and subtle tremors become harder to hide. The party begins actively searching for a cure—or at least a way to slow what’s killing her.
Azura Mark I combs through restricted medical archives, black-market biotech forums, and corrupted research nodes. One name appears again and again in cases marked impossible but stabilized:
Dr. Aurion Lanoir.
The last confirmed sighting places him in the desert city of Vara’Nahraj.
Subquests:
“Dead Forums, Living Lies” – Gather fragmented intel on Aurion’s work and reputation.
“Miracle Aftermaths” – Track down survivors of Aurion-adjacent treatments… and those who didn’t survive.
“Last Seen in the Sand” – Confirm Aurion’s presence in Vara’Nahraj through smugglers, medics, and rumor brokers.
RP Hooks:
Azura flags Aurion as “high probability, high ethical volatility.”
Naide assumes the party will go. She doesn’t ask.
Someone asks what happens if Aurion refuses. The silence answers.
🎭 MQ3 – “The Desert That Moves”
Synopsis:
The journey to Vara’Nahraj takes the party deep into open desert. There are no roads—only shifting dunes and heat-distorted horizons.
Without warning, the party is attacked by Tetra Gammatron—a nomadic machine race adapted for desert warfare. The assault is fast, coordinated, and merciless. This is not an ambush born of malice, but territory enforced by steel.
Subquests:
“Nomad Strike” – Survive a mobile desert battle against Tetra Gammatron skirmish units.
“Scavenger Logic” – Learn the nomads are patrolling something… or someone.
“Arrival Under Smoke” – Reach Vara’Nahraj damaged but intact.
In Vara’Nahraj, investigation reveals the truth:
Aurion does not live in the city.
He lives beneath the desert, deep within a cave system far from trade routes.
RP Hooks:
Naide reacts sharply to the desert—recognition without memory.
Azura notes similarities between Tetra Gammatron logic and future large-scale threats.
Locals warn: “If he hasn’t found you yet… he will.”
🎭 MQ4 – “The Streets Have Teeth”
After a false sense of calm, a sudden public duel erupts in the streets outside the party’s bunkhouse. The city watches—and judges.
Subquests:
“Public Divorce” – A merc breaks up with their partner via combat. PC intervention is optional, but spectators love drama.
“Catch the Summon” – A summoned beast escapes into the market mid-argument. PCs may wrangle it before it eats someone—or gets elected as mayor by goblin onlookers.
Lore Hooks:
Kumokuni observers take note of Fenix’s powers.
A bounty hunter from Eclipse Aeterna gives the PCs a nod—and a warning.
🎭 MQ4 – “Blood Answers Blood”
Synopsis:
Aurion’s task directs the party to L’Éden de Rouille, a rust-choked biome in Chal’Evreux where industrial ruin and mutated ecology exist in tense balance.
While the party gathers intelligence…
Mio arrives.
Naide’s older sister.
Human.
Kumokuni.
Mio orders Naide to return.
Naide refuses.
She tells the PCs to stand down.
“This is a family matter.”
The sisters fight.
Mio wins—quickly, decisively. And that’s when she realizes something is terribly wrong.
Subquests:
“Family Matter” – PCs choose whether to intervene or honor Naide’s request.
“The Wrong Kind of Weak” – Mio witnesses Naide’s failing body firsthand.
“Truth Without Softening” – The reality of Kurohana’s injections and the cancer is revealed.
RP Hooks:
Mio accuses the PCs of using Naide.
Evidence proves the opposite.
Mio breaks protocol—and stays.
From this point forward, Mio joins the party.
🎭 MQ5 – “What the Doctor Wants”
Synopsis:
Deep within L’Éden de Rouille lies Aurion’s objective: the Ferrum Seed—a sentient bio-engineered organism designed to stabilize dead ecosystems.
Aurion wants it intact.
The problem:
The Seed is alive
It understands what removal means
Its presence is the only thing keeping the region from collapsing entirely
Saving Naide may doom something else.
Subquests:
“Garden of Oxide” – Navigate hostile terrain and biomechanical guardians.
“The Seed That Speaks” – Communicate with the Ferrum Seed and learn its purpose.
“No Clean Extraction” – Decide whether to take it, replicate it imperfectly, or sabotage Aurion’s design.
RP Hooks:
Naide recognizes herself in the Seed—kept alive to serve.
Mio argues survival justifies sacrifice.
Azura asks: “If we choose her… who chooses them?”
🎭 MQ6 – “The Seal”
Synopsis:
The party returns to Dr. Aurion Lanoir.
He honors the agreement.
Using the Ferrum Seed data and his own expertise, Aurion performs a stabilization procedure on Naide. The effect is immediate and profound: her condition slows to near halt. Pain recedes. Breath steadies.
Then Aurion delivers the cost.
“She cannot use her abilities again.
Not even once.”
If she does, the seal will rupture—and the damage will be irreversible.
Subquests:
“Terms of Survival” – The party processes what this kind of life means.
“No Objection” – Naide accepts instantly.
“Witnesses” – Mio and the PCs understand what was given up.
RP Hooks:
Aurion states flatly: this is not mercy—it is balance.
Naide mourns nothing aloud.
Azura logs the result simply: Condition stabilized. Future constrained.
The party returns to Al Quasaran with two sisters changed, one life extended, and the knowledge that survival now comes with rules.
For now… Naide is alive.
And for this chapter, that is enough.
