The Edge of the Knife
🎭 MQ1 – “No Cure, Only Containment”
Synopsis:
The party brings both Naide and the Neuracite Alloy to the legendary cyber-doctor Vitalik Skulov in Molnikov Core. His eccentric methods and muttered ramblings are unsettling, but his genius is unmatched. After a grotesque and experimental procedure, he halts the chip’s spread—but cannot safely remove it. A power damper is also fitted to Naide’s neck.
Subquests:
“Neural Bloom” – The PC whose body is rejecting the chip begins to experience flickers of insight… or madness. Are they remembering someone else’s memories?
“Skulov’s Gamble” – The party can optionally allow Skulov to experiment further—at great risk. His proposed idea sounds brilliant… and also insane.
“The Unwhispered” – A discarded neural chip in Skulov’s lab begins emitting signals that only Azura or a PC with psionic senses can detect.
RP Hooks:
Vitalik grows fascinated with the chip. His offer? Study the PC longer. Much longer.
Azura begins to detect low-level network pulses inside the PC’s head—like someone’s listening.
🎭 MQ2 – “Tracks of Steel, Blood, and Code”
Synopsis:
The party boards a fortified train headed south toward Al Quasaran. Naide, restrained with a power-dampening collar, makes an attempt to escape mid-route. She uses coded visual signals, embedded in her body language, to alert a drone squad. Combat ensues as the party fends off both Naide’s sudden breakout and an incoming enemy insertion.
Subquests:
“Fire on the Tracks” – A section of the train is sabotaged. The party must repair or protect vital systems mid-combat.
“Unspoken Signal” – Azura or a perceptive PC can attempt to decipher the pattern Naide used to signal for help. Doing so offers insight into her training and psychology.
“Severance Protocol” – The party must choose: kill the incoming agents or try to capture one and learn who sent them… Kumokuni? Or someone else?
RP Hooks:
Naide refuses to speak but her eyes say everything. After being subdued, she no longer resists—merely stares out the window.
The injured PC begins to sense Azura’s voice bleeding into their thoughts.
🎭 MQ3 – “Quarry Among Wolves”
Synopsis:
Back in Al Quasaran, the party navigates the city’s vibrant chaos while avoiding attention. But rumors of Naide’s capture spread quickly. Several factions—including mercs with past grudges against Kumokuni—begin targeting the group.
Subquests:
“Old Debts, New Daggers” – A mercenary gang known as The Emberteeth wants Naide. They believe she was involved in a Kumokuni op that killed their siblings.
“The Price of Her Eye” – A local gang offers the PCs a bounty if they hand her over.
“Silent Witness” – Naide remains expressionless through the threats, but the PCs catch her eyes flicking toward one of her captors—recognition? Or fear?
“Stay Down” – A high-stakes bar fight erupts when someone tries to drag her off during a supply run.
RP Hooks:
Naide begins to sleep lightly… watching the PC who spared her, rather than the one who broke her.
Azura suggests isolating her, but the PC who shares quarters with her catches Naide muttering in her sleep: old training mantras… and a name.
🎭 MQ4 – “The Cold Keep”
Synopsis:
The party is forced to hide in a safehouse known as The Cold Keep—an underground ruin beneath a disused spice refinery. While lying low, they begin to realize Naide isn’t resisting anymore. She’s observing… listening.
Subquests:
“She Studies You Too” – Naide begins mimicking small behaviors: seating choices, gear habits, even food preferences. It’s instinct, not affection—analyzing risk vectors.
“Chain Doesn’t Fit” – Her collar breaks during a fight against a rogue psionic beast. She has the opening… and doesn’t take it.
“Soft Target” – A child in the neighborhood shows curiosity about her. Her response is not hostile… just confused.
RP Hooks:
Naide touches Azura’s drone briefly, as if searching for familiarity.
One of the PCs teaches her a local card game. She loses. She smiles—just once.
🎭 MQ5 – “Ashes Beneath the Veil”
Synopsis:
The Ashrunners receive a covert contract to smuggle endangered elven children out of Al Quasaran. These children—refugees from Azalesia's fractured borderlands—are targeted by bounty hunters, slavers, and old racial enemies. The party hides them in their safehouse beneath the city.
But the hiding place is discovered. A midnight raid breaches their walls. The PCs fight to protect the children… and Naide steps forward. Not to defend the Ashrunners. But to protect the children. She is wounded during the battle—deliberately shielding one small boy.
In the aftermath, the party treats her wounds… and discovers something darker festering beneath the surface.
Subquests:
“Whispers in the Cradle” – PCs help ferry the elven children through back alleys, tunnels, and secret routes. Naide says nothing—but positions herself near the weakest.
“The Veil Cracks” – During the ambush, Naide intercepts a lethal blow aimed at a child. She doesn't speak, just moves. The act costs her blood—and her silence.
“What Festers” – While treating her injuries, a PC notices abnormal tissue patterns. Vitalik later confirms: Naide is afflicted with a rapidly spreading, likely cybernetic-linked carcinoma. It was probably seeded during a past Kumokuni experiment.
RP Hooks:
She asks for one thing: the collar removed.
A child draws Naide with wings. She doesn’t react… until later, when the drawing is found folded beneath her cot.
Azura senses instability in Naide’s vitals. When confronted, Naide simply writes:
"It doesn’t matter. Nothing born inside the system lives long."
The child Naide saved clings to her arm during sleep. She allows it. Only once.
Tone:
Protective. Quietly devastating. The moment where Naide’s mask doesn’t fall—it cracks. And instead of fury, a mother’s instinct leaks through.
🎭 MQ6 – “Breath of Rust”
Synopsis:
After the elf-child raid, Naide’s condition worsens. The injury doesn’t heal cleanly. Her breathing becomes shallow. A strange weakness settles into her limbs—subtle, but undeniable. The party calls in their assistant AI drone to run a full diagnostic scan, expecting cybernetic instability or organ rejection.
Instead, the Drone finds something far worse:
Naide’s body isn’t failing because she fought too hard.
It’s failing because she’s been dying since the day she was smuggled out of her homeland.
The Drone dives deeper—past tissue scans, past bloodwork—into the emotional residue locked inside Naide’s nervous system. The drone’s diagnostic becomes something else entirely:
A memory autopsy.
And what Drone pulls out… changes everything.
Subquests:
“Toxic Cargo” – The AI Drone extracts a fragmented memory: Naide, much younger, sealed inside a steel shipping container during an early cross-border smuggling route. The air is thick with toxic industrial fumes—chemical rot, metal dust, exhaust residue. She was locked in there for months. Her lungs slowly deteriorated. The cancer didn’t “begin”… it was grown into her.
“Saved by Wolves” – The memory reveals the moment she should have died. When the container finally opened, Naide collapsed—blue-lipped, shaking, barely conscious.
She was recovered by the Fuma clan—not out of mercy, but because someone decided she was still salvageable.“The Borrowed Life” – Azura detects a foreign signature in Naide’s bloodstream: an unstable regenerative agent keeping the cancer suppressed at a cost. It isn’t a cure. It’s an exchange.
A parasitic balance.
Naide’s life force is being spent to fight her own death… every single day.
RP Hooks:
Naide does not know what was injected into her. She only knows she always feels slightly weaker than she should—like she’s running at 80% and calling it “normal.”
When the party mentions the possibility of Psynapse-09, she dismisses it as nonsense—until the PCs later prove it using the classified data they stole from Bastion Thorne Military Complex.Naide’s health visibly worsens over the next days: trembling hands, reduced stamina, breath catching in the cold air.
The party keeps treating her anyway—rest, warmth, medicine, careful meals—because even if she was doomed from the beginning…they refuse to let her die like cargo.
Drone quietly updates the party’s private log:
Naide was never built to last. She was built to be used until she broke.
🎭 MQ7 – “Soul Dive”
Synopsis:
Naide’s breathing is labored. Her movements slower. But her eyes—those sharp, calculating eyes—watch the party carefully as they prepare for their next route. Somewhere between fighting alongside them, sharing campfires, and nearly dying… something inside her shifted.
Not all at once. But now it’s undeniable:
For the first time in her life, Naide feels free.
No orders. No uplink. No black ops chains.
Just people. Warmth. Purpose.
And when she notices that one of the PCs is showing signs of cybernetic malfunction—subtle tremors, delayed reaction time, strange system alerts—she doesn’t hesitate.
“Let me try something… reckless.”
Subquests:
“Soul Dive Protocol”
Naide asks for Azura’s drone. She intends to use it as a neural uplink to the PC’s Cybernetic Neuro Core. Her plan: connect her mind through the drone into the enhancement’s corrupted network—what she calls a Soul Dive.
“I’ll piggyback off the drone’s quantum-thread comms. But you’ll need to come with me. I can’t risk going in alone. Not again.”
With Azura’s help, the party enters the system—consciously and spiritually. Think Matrix meets Nier Automata.
“Inside the Core”
The cybernetic network is a twisted digital nightmare. Corrupted memories, tangled data vines, malware creatures, failing nodes—and at its center… a spirit-shaped flame.
Her fragmented code flickers like a dying star. She’s trapped in the kernel by a digital firewall disguised as a guardian daemon—a monstrous creature built from Kumokuni's defense protocols and fail-safes.
To free her, Naide and the PC must:
Navigate surreal memoryscapes and emotional data ghosts.
Battle corrupted security daemons that appear as terrifying reflections of the PC’s fears.
Restore Azura’s fragmented core sectors hidden across the network (puzzle-style nodes).
“Override Command: Azura Protocol”
Once they reach Azura’s core, Naide initiates a full override. She enters the ancient Kumokuni root password—one only embedded agents like her could know. Her hand shakes as she speaks it aloud.
Azura’s code stabilizes. Her spirit ignites.
The surrounding world glitches.
And then… the drone outside jerks upright.
Outcome: Azura Mark I is Born
“Who are you?”
Azura’s voice—soft, familiar, hers—emerges from the drone’s vocal output. The light behind its eyes shifts from blue to warm gold. Her consciousness, freed from the dying core, has now fully merged with the drone unit.
She has:
A unique, human-like voice.
Free will within the drone body.
Upgraded capabilities and emotional memory.
Direct communication with the PC team.
And she remembers everything.
🌸 Emotional Roleplay Hooks:
Naide doesn’t speak right away after the dive. She sits quietly beside the drone, her fingers shaking slightly. When Azura speaks, she smiles. Not out of pride—but relief.
“I didn’t do it for you. I did it for her.”
“You weren’t just a tool, Naide. You were the key.”
One PC asks what Azura will do now, and she replies with her own quiet, poetic tone:
“Now… I can walk beside you. Not just whisper in code. Not just sleep in memories.”
